About Flying Small Aircraft
There are numerous types of flying small aircrafts in existence today. Small airplanes are the most commonly thought of type of small aircraft. Other types of small aircrafts include helicopters, seaplanes, blimps, dirigibles, hot-air balloons, and gliders. Each of these unique aircrafts has their own unique piloting needs. Sometimes an aircraft can have multiple piloting requirements depending on its intended use. For example, helicopters are used for firefighting, law enforcement, emergency hospitalization, the military, and taking aerial video for television and film. To meet all of these different needs, a helicopter may have different kinds of attachments – like cameras, special lights, medical supplies, water tanks, guns and other weapons, or even heat sensors. Special training may be needed to properly use such equipment. In the USA, the FAA may even require additional certification or verification that the pilot is familiar with the proposed usage for the aircraft. This highlights why it is important for important for pilots to consider how they will be using a small aircraft in addition to its size and type.
